Cool. A longtime mystery was unexpectedly solved today. Like 10
minutes ago. I was reading an article on the Rolling Stone website
about the re-release of the 101'ers record. The 101'ers were the late
Joe Strummer's first band. It got me thinking about what Joe's partner,
Mick Jones was up to, so I Googled "Big Audio Dynamite" and found
a fan site. On the site, was an extensive section with attributions of
the myriad samples used throughout the BAD canon.
One of my favorite songs from B.A.D. is a little number called
"Dial-A-Hitman", which features a great telephone conversation
over a whacking gone wrong. It sounds as if it was taken from a film,
and is falsely credited on the sleeve as being from "Lafayette Zero-6",
directed by a "Jan Jarmusch", which is of course, a nod to filmmaker
Jim Jarmusch. The thing that drove me nuts was the familiarity of the
two voices heard in the conversation. Finally, I have the answer.
The dialog was scripted by the band specifically for the song, and the
voices belong to none other than Matt Dillon and Laurence Fishburne.
How cool is that?
I've got nothing better to do, so here's the "scene". The caller is Matt
Dillon. Fishburne is Carson King.

Mr. Carson King. That's King with a "K".

Got to admit, I've often thought which film these lines came from BAD often used sounbites from cult films
Thank you!! I was listening to this yesterday and couldn't figure out the Lafayette 06 part... bothered me for 2 days!!
Matt Dillon, huh? I always thought it sounded like Danny DiVito
Just Play Music (Tighten Up Vol. 88) sampled a 1967 British movie called Privilege by a writer-director, Peter Watkins who would go on to add to his accomplishments videos for Pink Floyd.
Thank you for solving this mystery.
Its been bothering me for ages. For some reason I thought it was Christopher Walken as the unhappy customer.
And by the way - what a great band BAD was!
